The Earthling's Content

‘I go to prepare a place for you’ John 14:2

I thank you Lord, for this my earthly place

Where hearth and warmth a simple welcome give.

Here’s wine to raise a glass in friendship’s cheer,

And waft of home-baked bread anticipates

The hour of shared repast. The curtain’s drawn:

Tick of the clock on mantel shelf records

The measured timely span of all our days:

A chair each side the hearth for friendship’s trust.

Togetherness in mutual respect

Of each the other’s confidence esteemed.

Where each in turn the other gently proves,

And each in turn moves to a wider space.

When I must quit this precious place for yours,

Will yours outmatch the treasured bliss of this?
