Meditation on Psalm 139

Precious to me is your thought O Lord,

Search me and know my inward intent

The wish that precedes my uttered word.

Before a word my tongue does present,

It echoes already within your heart.

Judge it Lord for its inner intent.

You are familiar before I start

Of the paths my fancy tempts me to take.

You stay me, Lord, before I depart.

Precious to me for your mercy’s sake,

You know when I sit and when I arise;

When I’m asleep and when I’m awake.

Wherever I flee your hand will guide,

For darkness and light are alike to you.

Ever your presence is at my side.

I thank you, Lord, for you thought of me,

Wove me, formed me, made me be.
