Ballade Royale
In him we live and move and have our being : Acts 17:28
To you, my God with thankful words I sing,
with you I bond and yet you birthed me free.
I move at will and at the same time cling
to you my maker, by whose royal decree
the word was said which brought me forth to be.
And yet unknown beyond all mortal seeing,
in you I live and move and have my being.
Keep silence all you preaching voices, bring
a humbler attitude to mystery’s key.
Much simpler far than mentor’s bidding
to gain by exercises one degree
closer to God. We cannot closer be.
Just as the bird in native air is winging
In you we live and move and have our being.
So sink my soul in this my native spring,
my air and ocean more than these to me.
Enfolded in awareness of unknowing,
sustained by knowing what it is to be.
And just as fish in native ocean swimming,
in you I live and move and have my being.
