Kempsey, NSW
The Sisters in Kempsey gather in the small chapel for prayer twice a day, and Eucharist is celebrated once a week. Their ministry in the parish of Kempsey includes visiting people in aged care facilities, in their own homes and supporting others in their life journey.
One sister serves in the parish ministry team as a licensed lay minister conducting Sunday services and funerals, and taking communion to the sick and infirm. Lay ministers are necessary as there is only one priest and the parish covers a large area. Besides All Saints church in the town of Kempsey, there are four outcentres up to 70km apart where services are held, from a beachside village to a small hamlet surrounded by farms in the western hills.
The parish has a particular concern for the environment and the sisters, together with other parishioners, are working with the non-human part of God's creation for the good of all. This has resulted in action around the parish to reduce the human environmental footprint in this part of the world.
A Day of Reflection (Quiet Day) for Associates and Friends of the Community is held usually three times a year and a celebration of St Michael and All Angels is held in September.
